This video was recorded back in 1979 in Sydney when I brought Lazo, Mile Kolarov (kaval) and Chris Gunstone (tambura) to Australia for 2 months to play concerts and run workshops as part of the group Orkestar Grupa Pečalbari. This clip was filmed during a workshop at UNSW Music Dept.
Two years previously Lazo had been my gaida teacher and mentor when I was 25 years old in 1977/78 when I spent 8 months in Macedonia. I lived in a granny flat in Lazo and Blagitsa’s back garden for 3 months (with Adam Heilbrunn) and I am indebted to Lazo for his generosity and giving me so much of his time and starting me on my journey with Macedonian music. Thankyou Lazo.
