Junglefowls: The Living Ancestors of the Modern Chicken

The Red Junglefowl (Gallus gallus) is the primary ancestor of the domestic chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus). The Grey Junglefowl, Sri Lankan Junglefowl and Green Junglefowl is likely to be also involved in the creation of the modern table bird. The Green Junglefowl may be familiar to some, but the Grey Junglefowl? The Sri Lankan Junglefowl? No, I personally have never heard of them. Join me as we dive in to these four living species of the bird genus Gallus, and find out more about the beautiful, the exotic, and the wild junglefowls.
