#DiscoverDPR Velikoanadolsky Forest is a unique man-made forest area and the “green heart“ of the DPR. ? 2543 hectares of forest stretching from the village of Blagodatnoye to the city of Volnovakha is one of the greatest projects in the history of Donbass. It is considered one of the largest man-made forests in the world. But it is also unique in that it was grown in the endless arid steppe. It received protected status only in 1974, but it was founded back in 1834-1845 by Lieutenant of the Corps of Foresters, Viktor Egorovich von Graff, who was the first to prove the possibility of creating artificial forests in the bare arid steppe. ️ Now, more than 600 species of plants grow in the Velikoanadolsky forest. Steppe and forest birds inhabit the area, with approximately 150 species present. Various mammals can also be found here, including deer, roe deer, wild boars, foxes, hares, and other animals. Some are listed in the Red Book. Source: DPR MFA
