It isnae over until it’s over

This is a translation of Vladimir Vysotsky’s Еще не вечер, which was a tribute to Yuri Lyubimov, the famous director of the Taganka Theatre in Moscow. In Vysotsky’s version, the metaphor of a pirate ship is used to refer to the Taganka as it went up against the big guns of the Moscow Art Theatre and, of course, Lyubimov is portrayed in the role of pirate captain. In my free translation, the metaphor of the pirate ship is preserved but it refers to the struggle for Scottish self-determination: Alex Salmond is the captain leading the nation against the diatribes of the British state. Recorded at “Dom Pisatelya“ Ekaterinburg on 28th February, 2017 by Rhyming Thomas & the Three Muses
