Mottetto isoritmico a 2 voci e 2 tenor strumentali Il mottetto “Nuper rosarum flores“, composto da Guillame Dufay tra la fine del 1435 e l’inizio del 1436, è costruito sul “Tenor“ gregoriano “Terribilis est locus iste“. Il mottetto rappresenta uno dei tipici esempi di musica fiamminga costruita su rigidi schemi geometrici, fondati su relazioni numeriche predeterminate. È tuttora dubbio se le relazioni numeriche usate da Dufay siano indipendenti o desunte direttamente da quelle delle proporzioni della Cattedrale fiorentina (o, magari, da quelle della cupola del Brunelleschi). Quel che è certa è la sequenza numerica che sta alla base della strutturazione complessiva del brano che, sinteticamente, si articola in quattro sezioni le cui durate corrispondono ad una sequenza 6-4-2-3. La prima esecuzione del mottetto è stata effettuata durante la celebrazione di consacrazione della Cattedrale di Firenze dedicata a Santa Maria del Fiore, avvenuta il 25 marzo 1436 per opera di Papa Eugenio IV.
