Boy Fencer (1955)

Brighton, Sussex. L/S of a man in a white fencing outfit walking through a parkland with daffodils. A young boy accompanies him wearing an old fashioned costume of blue knee length trousers and a shirt with a ruffle at the neck. This is apparently “17th century duelling costume“. L/S reveals that they are in the grounds of the Brighton Pavilion. They walk in front of the majestic building then stop. M/S of the boy demonstrating his technique as his teacher looks on. Low angle shot of the teacher giving instruction. The teacher is the boy’s father - Charles King, a founder member of Brighton and Hove Fencing Club. The boy, John, is the club mascot - C/U of him making a fencing thrust. C/U of his feet and various shots of the two sparring. Some good shots of both father, son and mother who sits on the grass beside some daffodils. John and his father don masks and carry on with their fencing practice.
