Adrián “RAISY“ Birgány, Quake Champions dueler for Myztro Gaming, is the star of the 350th Episode of ’Reflections’. This episode is part one of two about RAISY’s career.
RAISY is a contender for the best Quake Champions player of all time and is one of the best duelers any version of Quake has produced. His fatal flaw, thusfar, has been an inability to close out champions and thus he has not only finished runner-up at a staggering five Quake Pro League World Championships but an additional two season finals as well, totalling seven finals over the 10 QPL events.
RAISY broke out in Quake Champions with his online play and then winning Dreamhack Denver in 2017. The following year he won again on LAN at the Italian Open, defeating rapha in the final there. After that he became a seemingly permanent fixture at the top on the Quake Pro League (QPL) Tour. In 2019 he fell to the mighty Cooller at the QPL Stage 1 Final. rapha took the trophy from him in the Stage 2 Final the following year.
At the 2020 QPL WC he was beaten by rapha in the final. That feat would be repeated by the American at the Season 2 Stage 1 Final later that year. In 2021 team-mate vengeuR snatched a close final to deny RAISY again. The 2022 QPL WC saw k1llsen hitting peak form again and winning a thrilling 4:3 series. Last year’s QPL WC had another rematch with rapha and again it was the king of QuakeCon taking the crown.
In part one, RAISY talks about his days grinding Counter-Strike, looking up to the big names in Quake 3, breaking out into the Quake Champions scene, placing second so many times and how he has been responsible for game elements being nerfed over and over.
This interview was recorded on the 26th of January, 2024.
