China’s new COVID-19 cases hit record high

Chinese authorities have ordered more lockdowns as COVID-19 cases continue to climb. In Zhengzhou city, six million people are under lockdown, after violent protests broke out at an iPhone factory over COVID isolation policies and working conditions. Residents cannot leave the area unless they have a negative COVID test and permission from local authorities. China recorded 31,444 new cases on Wednesday -- the highest since the pandemic began.
