This song was not born as many think in Argentina, but in the republic of Uruguay. This composition is regarded as Uruguay’s national heritage. In fact there is a law which states: “La Cumpparsita, created by Uruguayan composer Gerardo Hernan Matos Rodriguez and completed on April 19th 1917, is on that account proclaimed the cultural and national anthem of the eastern republic of Uruguay.
