What Locrian Sounds Like - Moonlight Sonata 3rd Movement

Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata (3rd Movement) transposed into the Locrian mode. As a little experiment, I shifted this fast paced piece into the strangest, most unused musical mode.. and somehow to me it kind of works. It’s an interesting experiment that gives us an idea of how Locrian would sound if a piece were composed in it with the techniques Beethoven used to compose his music. Also, it’s worth noting that theme A starts of in locrian, theme B then comes in as lydian, and in the recapitulation, both themes end off in locrian. So skip to 4:00 to get an idea of both themes totally in locrian. This video is strictly for educational purposes. Original performance by Valentina Lisitsa. Transposition made with Melodyne.
