This quick tip introduces the Thin Film Inheritance OSL Node, which is a highly controllable version of Thin Film. You can create very vibrant and colorful, iridescent looks using this node. It also has a great set of inputs which offers even more control versus the Thin Film parameter built into the Redshift Standard Surface Material.
Connecting nodes to the Thin Film OSL to control it’s colors is very powerful, I demonstrate some cool procedural patterns using the RS Tiles node in this quick tip.
This information should apply to Redshift in other DCCs, as well as other render engines that support OSL although specifics about OSL support will vary from engine to engine.
