A donkey carried a statue of a god on his back. Wherever he passed by, people knelt down and worshiped it. The donkey, thinking they were worshiping him, straightened his legs and began to bray, demanding more honor. The owner, angry, started beating the donkey. “That’s what we’ve been missing“ he said. “Let the donkeys think that we worship them“. It applies to politicians. Because their followers worship the authority they have, they think they worship themselves.
