My submission for the 2021 Gems In The Rough contest for GemsOnVHS. The Strongest Stuff Well I don’t want help exactly Just anything to distract me Play dumb I’ve got a wound that never bleeds I’m tough as nails can’t you tell Impenetrable outer shell Pretend I’m numb to what happened overseas My conscience lacks the proper clout To sort all my real issues out The more I grasp the more I lose my mind And I can’t maintain a calm composure I’d go searching for some closure But I’m frightened of just what I’ll find So I scream into the wind The lie that I want to believe in If I’m loud enou...gh I am made of the strongest stuff I need a vacation Somewhere to shed my reputation A new place with fresh faces and grace them with my lies Like how my drinking days are over When it’s been years since I’ve been sober Since the war I can’t sleep without a little help to close my eyes So I scream into the wind The lie that I want to believe in If I’m loud enough Maybe I am made of the strongest stuff Recorded by Kevin Thomson
