RAF pilots consisted of British volunteers who were an average age of 20.
1 in 10 pilots were from commonwealth nations such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
While others came from occupied nations in Europe, including: Czechs, Poles, French and Belgians. The Polish made up the largest amount of foreign volunteers, followed by New Zealand, Canada and Czechoslovakia.
