Disgraced monuments (1994) Laura Mulvey & Mark Lewis

Following the collapse of Communism in the Soviet Union, many of the public monuments of Lenin, Stalin, and other government leaders were demolished or stored in the Temporary Museum of Totalitarian Art in a Moscow park. This film essay explores the subject through rare archival footage and interviews with sculptors, art historians, and museum directors, in order to examine how monuments connect us with the past, how they are destroyed and how new ones rise at times of social cataclysm. Directed by British film theorist Laura Mulvey and Canadain artist and filmmaker Mark Lewis.
