This Episode of Teddy Bedlam TV is wonderful , so join us on a Beautiful countryside walk to an old abandoned Fletchers paper mill in Greenfield near Dovestones reservoir in Saddleworth England. We love to explore old abandoned buildings with our Beautiul working type dog and he loves exploring as much as we do and we find its amazing training and simulation for him Wow it was kind of like being in a dream 😳 The security guard was not too happy we had wandered on private land by accident. Please nobody else do this as its very dangerous and me and Jason are very careful A brief Lowdown of Fletchers Paper mill in Greenfield Saddleworth. Early Beginnings: The story begins in the 1830s with Robert Fletcher, who started his career at “Ralph Crompton & Nephews,” a bleaching and papermaking business in Stoneclough. He eventually became the manager and later took over the business Expansion: The company was incorporated as a limited company in 1897 and employed about 200 people at their Stoneclough base. In 1921, they opened a second site in Greenfield, which specialized in producing cigarette paper1 Peak and Decline: The Greenfield mill built a solid reputation for quality and reliability, with a turnover of almost £18 million by 1997. However, financial difficulties led to a decline, and the business could not be saved. The original Stoneclough site was closed in an attempt to consolidate operations at Greenfield, but this was not enough. Closure: In July 2001, the business was formally wound up, and the mill ceased operations. The site remains largely untouched since its closure, with machinery and paper still in place, creating a time capsule of its final days. The mill’s history is a testament to the industrial heritage of the area and the challenges faced by traditional manufacturing industries in modern times.
