Baschet: The Transfiguration of Daily Life (sous-titres en français)
An excerpt from the 2003 documentary by Eric Marin, published here with his kind permission (all rights reserved).
This film presents the life work of François and Bernard Baschet, creators since the 1950s of unusual, elegant sound sculptures and musical instruments, including clips from film and television. The film shows how the Baschets’ work expresses a unique fusion of their political, social, and aesthetic philosophies. Not content with making work which would only be seen in galleries, the Baschets initiated educational music programs for children and the disabled, in addition to holding worldwide exhibitions and performances. With conviction and humor, the Baschets express their guiding belief that creativity and public participation within the arts are fundamental ways of transforming our lives and the world around us.
