Philippine Lawmakers Want US to Pay For Military Bases, Chinese Navy Ship Docks On Goodwill Visit

Philippine lawmakers have pushed the Marcos administration to amend two defence treaties with the US. The lawmakers want the US to pay for using Manila’s military bases to fund cash-strapped military pension scheme. Manila does not have enough money to pay for all its troops’ pensions and is suffering through a massive funding gap. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has warned that MUP will run out of cash within six years if it does not become self-sustaining. The US has 5 bases in the Philippines and can have access to 4 more bases under the 2014 Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement. Meanwhile, a Chinese navy training vessel docked in Manila on June 14, while on a regional “friendly” tour. #usa #philippines #china #southchinasea 0:00 - Introduction 0:27 - Philippine Lawmakers Want Us Military to Pay for Bases 1:24 - What is Manila Worried About the Pension Scheme? 2:25 - Us Military Presence in Philippines n18oc_world n18oc_crux CRUX is your daily video news guide to the big events that are shaping our world.
