It encompasses the western portion of the Canal Belt and is known for its beautiful canals, picturesque canal houses, and rich cultural heritage. Grachtengordel West is defined by a network of canals, including some of the main concentric canals of Amsterdam’s Canal Ring, such as Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, and Herengracht. These canals were constructed during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century and are lined with elegant canal houses and historic buildings. The district is renowned for its well-preserved canal houses, which feature narrow facades, ornate gables, and large windows.
