THE BOOK OF ENOCH - Is it Kosher - with Rabbi Michael Skobac BOOK OF ENOCH The book of Enoch is an obscure and ancient apocryphal work from around 2200 years ago. Aside from not making it into the Jewish canon, it is also not part of the Christian scriptures, even that of the Catholic church that includes a number of apocryphal books. Enoch was only considered relevant by some Ethiopian Christian churches. It is clear that if not for the Internet’s capacity to breathe life into all that is bizarre and unusual, this work would be virtually forgotten. The book claims to have been written by Enoch (Chanoch in Hebrew) who lived seven generations after Adam. There is no evidence to substantiate this assertion. Because it makes reference to books that were only composed much later in history, virtually all scholars believe it was only first composed in the 2nd century BCE.
