NEW CENTROPEZN JAZZ QUARTET feat DIAN PRATIWI at UBUD VILLAGE JAZZ FESTIVAL 2023 - Juwita Malam
The “New Centropezn“ jazz quartet is a well-known group both in Russia and abroad, particularly in Germany, Belgium, and Spain. The quartet consists of professional musicians who graduated from the jazz department of the Rostov-on-Don State Sergey Rachmaninov Conservatory in Russia.
They first met in 1988 while studying at the Rostov College of Arts, and since then, they have gained popularity and success. Over the past 20 years, the quartet has become highly skilled and each musician is an excellent soloist. They have achieved significant recognition, including winning prizes and titles at various jazz contests in Brussels, Leverkusen, and Getxo. Additionally, the quartet has participated in numerous festivals in Russia, Germany, Serbia, and the Czech Republic.
The members of the “New-Centropezn“ jazz quartet are leading the way in creating the first jazz school for children in Russia. They also work as teachers at the school. The quartet has been a part of various jazz projects and has recorded CDs with notable musicians such as: saxophonists Jerry Bergonzi (USA), Uwe Plath (Germany), Ondrej Stveracek (Czech Republic) vocalists Dennis Rowland (USA), Dian Pratiwi (Indonesia) and trumpeter Ryan Carniaux. The Quartet are supported by the Cultural Ministry of Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
They have also released four CDs of their own.
Dian Pratiwi, the enchantress of jazz in Indonesia, needs no introduction amongst aficionados. However, for those uninitiated with the mellifluous voice of the archipelago’s finest jazz representative in Europe, let us have the pleasure of acquainting you.
Dian Pratiwi began singing in the choir at her primary school in Jakarta at the age of 13. She fell in love with Jazz after hearing Sarah Vaughn’s “Misty“ and began her professional singing career in 1979, performing in Jazz Clubs and International Hotels in Jakarta. She went on to study Jazz in Holland and won the “Golden Tulip Award“ in Leiden.
In 2002, she moved to Germany to further develop her career and joined the Glen Bushman Jazz Akadamie Big Band. She also performed with the East West European Jazz Orchester TWINS 2007-2016 conducted and founded by Uwe Plath and Andrej Machnev. With this orchestra she also performed in the capital of culture 2010 Istanbul as an official ambassador of the Ruhr 2010 and the German government (Auswärtiges Amt der BRD). She received the Title of “The Official Voice of The Capital of Culture 2010/Ruhr 2010”.
