As of 1 June 2019, the city had an estimated population of 276,567 in 136,209 households, and a population density of 335 persons per km². The city is one of Japan’s 48 core cities. The total area of the city was square kilometers. Aomori is located in central Aomori Prefecture, on a plain between the southern end of Aomori Bay, which it faces to the north and the Hakkōda Mountains to the south.
