TO SWEAR OFF STH

TO SWEAR OFF STH ENG: to make a decision to stop doing, using, or being involved with something harmful, such as drugs or alcohol, or something that is not good or helpful. I’ve sworn off desserts. I am on a diet. Jack swore off cigarettes for his New Year’s resolution. I’ve sworn off binge watching TV shows till 2 in the morning. But sometimes I fall off the wagon – plot twists and cliffhangers suck me right in, and before I know it, I’m on the edge of my seat and completely lost track of the time. -Remember, after my dinner party, when I said that I was swearing off women? -I definitely remember your dinner party. -I think what I meant was that I am completely swearing off one woman.
