Sanie cu Zurgalai - Bela Chitaristul

Bela Chitaristul was born in 1908 in Bucharest. He was the first to launch and perform the famous Romanian folk song ’Sanie cu Zurgalai’. If you listen to his singing you’ll hear an extra verse that is forgotten and unknown. Bela left Romania for Israel in 1950. In the same time he met a Canadian guy, from Romanian origin, who came especially to listen him singing and asked him to sing the sanie cu zurgalai. The guy was agitated, took a napkin and on the spot wrote an English version which is known as ’Johny is the boy for me’. Bela passed away in 1993 in Tel Aviv.
