History of Sangak bread (traditional and delicious Iranian bread):;
Sangak means small stone in Farsi. This traditional Iranian flat bread is covered with sesame seeds and baked in the oven on a bed of small river stones.
Sangak bread was the bread of the Iranian army and was mentioned for the first time in the 11th century. Each soldier carried a small amount of pebbles, which were gathered in the camp to make a “pebble oven“ that baked bread for the entire army.
Iranian wholemeal bread is without oil, sugar and preservatives.
Sangak bread is the perfect complement to dips, salads, as part of a meze feast, or with your favorite cheeses and cold cuts.
