TO ALL DEAR FRIENDS AND VISITORS IN THIS CHANNEL
A HAPPY AND BLESSED CHRISTMAS 2023!

NOTE: The lullaby “Lulajże Jezuniu“ [Hush, Infant Jezus] is among the oldest Polish Christmas carols. Its original text, dated 1705, is in the Museum of the Archdiocese of Poznań, and the music was first published in Rev. Mioduszewski’s 1848 collection of Christmas songs, becoming the inspiration for Fr. Chopin to include its melody in the scherzo in B minor, Op. 20. In France, it was performed under the title Nuit de lumière.
Eugeniusz MOSSAKOWSKI (born in Warsaw 1885 - died in Warsaw 1958) - one of the most outstanding names in the history of Warsaw Opera in the 20th century. A student in the class of European renowned tenor Wacław Brzeziński, he was hired at the Warsaw Grand Theater in 1921 and remained associated with the stage until his death in 1958. In 1926 he appeared in the world premiere of Karol Szymanowski’s opera King Roger. In the 1920s through 1930s, Mossakowski recorded many albums of operatic and popular repertoire for the Syrena-Electro, Parlophon and Odeon labels.
As usual, the photo show presents some lovely Polish Christmas postcards from the pre-war era.
