Original MacBook Pro gets a Core 2 Duo Upgrade

In this video, I go over the process of performing a Core 2 Duo upgrade on a first generation 17“ MacBook Pro. This is an upgrade I’ve tried a couple times in the past, but was never successful. Well, now having a good set of equipment and a lot more experience, I was finally able to make the upgrade happen! In addition to upgrading the CPU, I was also able to successfully update the machine’s system firmware to MacBookPro2,1 (Late-2006 model) firmware, which enabled full support for the newly-installed Core 2 Duo, and removed the 2GB RAM limitation. 0:00 Intro 5:03 Removing the donor Core 2 Duo CPU 6:28 Reballing the donor CPU 13:16 Removing original Core Duo CPU and preparing the board 16:57 Installing the Core 2 Duo CPU 19:24 Initial testing 22:05 Updating to MacBookPro2,1 firmware 23:45 Testing with updated firmware and conclusion
