HENRI MOISSAN 1852-1907 Pharmacyst first French Nobel Prize for Chemistry
It has been more than a century since this great scientist did honour France as he was praised for his works by the international scientific community and awarded the Nobel Prize. As a matter of fact, he succeeded for the first time in isolating fluorine and in obtaining temperatures up to 3500°C thanks to the improvements he made to his electric arc furnaces. He is also known to have synthesized and purified a great number of metals and mineral compounds, including silicon carbide which was to be called Moissanite as well as to have tried to make artificial diamonds when reproducing in his laboratory the necessary high temperatures and pressures. His works are still referred to nowadays in many discoveries and applications in the scope of health and chemical sciences. This film, the very first to be dedicated to him and mainly directed in Paris and Meaux where he used to live, is not only a duty of remembrance but also an incentive for young generations to participate to the development of such strategic ar
