This performance dates from 5 September 1992.
It features both Mandawuy Yunipingu (Vocals and 1992 Australian of the Year) and his 21 year old nephew Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunipingu (right hand guitar played left handed). Other key members are listed below.
The all conquering Yothu Yindi played many dates in Australia that year. Gurrumul left the band later in the year and prior to their first overseas tour, but would return to become the most successful indigenous artist by album sales at the time of his death in 2017.
Lead guitar: Cal Williams
Bass: Stuart Kellaway
Drums: Andrew Belletty
Didgeridoo: Milkayngu Mununggurr
Traditional vocals and ironwood clapsticks: Witiyana Marika
Stompen Ground was broadcast live by the ABC and included a full concert line-up, Unfortunately my tape was running out and only made it half way through the penultimate song,’ Tribal Voice’. ’Treaty’ followed (but only as a song).
