Spector Dimension 5 vs Dingwall NG2 5 (featuring 14 Different Preamps)

Today we’re comparing the Spector Dimension 5 and the Dingwall NG 2 5. Both basses have the same scale lengths but completely different tones. The Dimension is equipped with the Fishman Fluency System featuring a 2-band EQ, coil split, and voice switch, whereas the NG 2 comes stock with the Darkglass Tone Capsule 3-Band Preamp and a 4-way pickup selector switch. The onboard EQ of each bass remains flat throughout the video and all Spector tones have the pickups set to dual coil unless otherwise specified. This video mainly cycles through the different voicing options of each bass with the Spector’s Voice Switch and the Dingwall’s Pickup Selector. All of the playing examples are identical through each preamp, so think of this video like the old Choose Your Own Adventure books. Timestamps for each preamp are below so you can skip over to your favorite. All preamps with selectable distortion are engaged but set quite moderately (with the exception of the Alpha Omega and B7K). ------------- 0:00 Direct Signal (No Preamp) 3:14 Ashdown ABM-300 (with Ashdown 115 Cabinet) 6:29 Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver v2 9:44 MXR Bass DI 12:59 Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra 16:14 Ampeg SCR-DI (with SVT 810E Cabinet) 19:29 Laney Digbeth Preamp (with Laney 212 Cabinet) 22:43 Darkglass Vintage Ultra 25:59 Tech 21 Steve Harris SH1 Signature SansAmp 29:13 Walrus Audio Badwater 32:28 Neural DSP Darkglass B7K Ultra Plugin 35:43 Tech 21 VT Bass Rackmount 38:58 Tech 21 GED-2112 42:13 Gallien-Krueger Legacy (with GK 210 Cabinet) 45:28 Orange OB1 (with SVT 810AV Cabinet) ------------- We make a small commission on any product purchased through our affiliate links.
