Former Rothschild’s Office in Baku

𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗛 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗭𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗜𝗝𝗔𝗡 FORMER ROTHSCHILD’S OFFICE IN BAKU The building was built in 1897-1899 in the neo-Gothic style and was designed by the Polish architect Kazimierz Skórewicz. It bears a characteristic feature for Baku, white aglay stone, which Skórewicz generally liked to work with. The building housed the Rothschild’s Caspian-Black Sea Company, one of the leading oil companies of the age. During Soviet times the architecture of the building underwent some changes as elements deemed “pretentious” and “inappropriate” for the working class were removed. Currently the building serves as the State Prosecutor’s Of¬fice. The building’s architect, a talented Pole Kazimierz Skórewicz, worked in Baku for over 12 years, including as the chief architect
