Burle Marx: 1. Festa (Violeiros de Guaratiba)

Brazilian composer Walter Burle Marx may have written his five-movement suite for solo guitar, Violeiros de Guaratiba, in direct response to the Suite Populaire Bresilienne of Villa Lobos. Like that better-known work this one was written for Segovia, was modeled on popular styles, and is both accessible and playable. This first movement is a short, upbeat samba with an attractive, catchy tune.
