PD-14, PD-8, PD-35 and PS90A - Russia Future Civil Engine Volumes Required

Russia is embarking on an ambitious project to revive its aviation industry. After decades of producing primarily military aircraft, the country now seeks to ramp up civilian aircraft production. This ambitious endeavor hinges on the development and production of a substantial number of engines. The MC-21, a promising new Russian aircraft, is set to begin production in 2025 or 2026. However, its success depends heavily on the availability of the PD-14 engine, which is being developed by the United Engine Corporation (UEC). UEC faces the daunting task of producing 160 PD-14 engines annually to meet the demand for the MC-21. In addition to the PD-14, UEC is also responsible for producing other engines. The PS-90A engine family is crucial for the Il-76MD-90A, Tu-214, and Il-96-300 aircraft. UEC aims to produce 120 PS-90A engines annually by 2030. To achieve these ambitious goals, UEC is investing in research and development. The company is collaborating with smaller, more agile enterprises to accelerate innovation. UEC is also expanding its manufacturing capabilities by building a new production site near Perm. However, UEC faces significant challenges. The company needs to recruit thousands of new employees, including technologists, workers, and controllers. To address this shortage, UEC is partnering with educational institutions to train future aviation professionals. Despite the challenges, Russia’s aviation industry is poised for a resurgence.
