Bruceploitation - Exploiting the Legend

“Bruceploitation“ refers to a subgenre of martial arts films that emerged in the 1970s and 1980s, primarily in Hong Kong cinema. The term is derived from the name Bruce Lee, the legendary martial artist and actor, who became an international icon after the success of films like “Enter the Dragon“ and “Fists of Fury.“ After Bruce Lee’s untimely death in 1973, several filmmakers sought to capitalize on his popularity by creating films that featured actors who resembled Bruce Lee or imitated his fighting style. These films often had titles that capitalized on the connection to Bruce Lee, such as “The Clones of Bruce Lee“ or “Bruce Lee Fights Back from the Grave.“ The actors in these films, known as “Bruceploitation“ stars, often adopted stage names that sounded similar to Bruce Lee’s, such as Bruce Li, Bruce Leong, Bruce Le, or Dragon Lee. While some of these films gained popularity, they were generally criticized for exploiting Br
