🔴🔴🔴 Link for donation: 🔴🔴🔴 In this exclusive podcast with Slavoj Žižek, the Slovenian philosopher, we ask him about the school of thought that influenced his ideas and politics. He talks about the Frankfurt School, Heideggerian phenomenologists, and analytical philosophy as different milieu co-existing under the former Yugoslavia. He said that all of them had an influence on him, along with French post-structuralist theories and Marxism, the latter being more obvious. He goes on to talk a bit about Leninism and his inclination towards thinking through post-revolutionary reconstruction. We asked him if he shared a cynicism of activism and popular movements like the Frankfurt School and some French theorists, which would set him apart from Lenin. He responded by saying that he is cautious about popular movements’ ability to construct a better world, while not being cynical at all. In fact, he says, he is disappointed with the Frankfurt School and some French theorists for not being excited about social movements and popular protests, along with their uncritical acceptance of Western institutions. He also makes a somewhat outlandish claim about moderate dictatorship being more useful for some Global South countries than liberal democracies. Furthermore, he lays out some of his criticisms of Western feminism, and what he thinks would make feminism more relevant to the Global South in general.
