In general, an outgroup should be as close as possible to the ingroup. If there is a risk that it is really part of the ingroup, then other outgroups are needed in addition, to help resolve those relationships. Multiple outgroups give a more reliable picture.
To select out group to construct phylogenetic trees is little bit tricky , Out-groups can be selected on the basis of prior knowledge of the group of interest, or may become apparent during alignment . In gene families, appropriate outgroups share at least one conserved domain with the group of interest. firstly select close relative sequence as close possible then construct the tree but if this sequence is still sharing as in group with your rest of study sequences , go little distant slowly and select another sequence ,in this way you will be able to find your best outgroup for your study.
