Sir. Antonio Pappano will conduct the rarely performed Ponchielli’s “La Gioconda“ for the first time at the Easter Festival. The new production by British director Oliver Mears will star Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann, and Luca Salsi. In a statement Netrebko said, “I am delighted to return to Salzburg for this very special project, and to have the opportunity to learn this wonderful score. I am looking forward to making my debut in this rarely performed work. I trust in Maestro Pappano as I always have in the past, that’s why I know it will be wonderful!” The cast will also feature Agnieszka Rehlis (La Cieca), Eve-Maud Hubeaux (Laura), and Tareq Nazmi (Alvise Badoero).

Strauss’ “Caprricio” is set to be performed in concert form with Elsa Dreisig and Bo Skovhus as Countess and Count. The cast also includes Sebastian Kohlhepp (Flamand), Konstantin Krimmel (Olivier), Mika Kares (La Roche), Ève-Maud Hubeaux (Clairon), Regula Mühlemann (An Italian Singer) and Josh Levell (An Italian Tenor). Christian Thielemann conducts the Vienna Philharmonic.

Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” returns to the festival in Romeo Castellucci’s production. Davide Luciano sings the title role with Nadezhda Pavlova, Federica Lombardi, Kyle Ketelsen, Dmitry Ulyanov, Julian Prégardien, Ruben Drole, and Anna El-Khashem. Teodor Currentzis conducts the Utopia Orchestra and the Utopia Choir.

Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito” will return to the stage with Cecilia Bartoli, Daniel Behle, Alexandra Marcellier, Mélissa Petit, and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo. Robert Carsen directs while Gianluca Capuano conducts Les Musiciens du Prince – Monaco and Il Canto di Orfeo.

Mieczysław Weinberg’s “The Idiot” will be directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski. Ausrine Stundyte sings the lead role alongside Bogdan Volkov, Iurii Samoilov, and Vladislav Sulimsky. Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla conducts the new production in Salzburg, leading the Vienna Philharmonic.

Prokofiev’s “The Gambler” will be performed for the first time at the Salzburg Festival. The work will be directed by Peter Sellars and will star Peixin Chen, Asmik Grigorina, Sean Panikkar, Juan Francisco Gatell, and Violeta Urmana. Timur Zangiev makes his debut at the Salzburg Festival and at the helm of the Vienna Philharmonic.

French director Mariame Clément makes her Salzburg Festival debut by leading Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann.” The cast includes Benjamin Bernheim in the title role, Kathryn Lewek as four heroines, Christian Van Horn as the villains, and Kate Lindsey as La Muse.
Marc Minkowski leads the Vienna Philharmonic.

Lissette Oropesa and Stéphane Degout sing the lead roles in Thomas’ “Hamlet” with a cast that includes Ève-Maud Hubeaux, Jean Teitgen, Julien Henric, and Clive Bayley.
