Ignatius Sancho, “Sweetest Bard,“ from Collection of New Songs (1769 or after)
Excerpt from a lecture-recital by Sonya Headlam and Rebecca Cypess created for the 2021 meeting of the American Musicological Society.
The keyboard instrument used in this performance is a square piano from 1780 by Johannes Zumpe, the most popular builder of pianos in 18th-century London. It was restored in 1993 by Tim Hamilton. Special thanks to Leslie Martin for generously allowing us to use this instrument.
