JOE JOYCE (UK) vs JOSEPH PARKER (NEW ZEALAND) KO FIGHT!

Welcome, guys, thanks for joining me again in this update. I hope you’re all well. So, the vacant WBO interim championship fight between Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker on September 24th, 2022, in Machester, was main event contest. Joyce was an undefeated powerhouse of a Heavyweight looking for his opportunity to become a world champion and Parker was a former world champion with fast hands. So Joyce imposes himself and outworks Parker to get the knockout win. I think Parker doesn’t really have strong defensive skills. What seems to be the case with Parker is that he uses his offense as his defense. Now, I think with Joyce you never feel that he is trying to time you or that you need to watch out for a possible counter-attack. Moreover, I believe the feeling that exists with all his opponents is that you just need to evade and counter his initial attack because what you see is what you get. You never sense that he works on the basis of attack and counter-attack. I feel if more of his attacks were set up in this way then his opponents would probably hesitate with him a bit more and find him less predictable. I think one of the ways this could be achieved is for him to have a slightly more refined lead hand. At the moment, it’s too stiff and 1-dimensional. He needs to use the lead hand to create distraction, confusion, and openings in his opponent so that he can set up the backhand for more effective power punches. Of course, his speed and defense are problematic, too, but I think when it comes to developing a Heavyweight, you need to keep things simple. With his more recent losses, I don’t think he should be thinking about retiring, but I do believe he needs to understand what key things are essential to focus on in training for development to compete at the highest level, which he just falling short of.
