This is a love song. A love song for my grandmother. She’s been the only one in my family who supported my creative and musical ambitions and even found my first singing teacher - a choir director from the local Jewish community in Munich. That’s where my folk(lore) journey began. “Sheyne Ziere“ is Yiddish and according to my grandma it means “a creation that is beautiful from the inside and outside“. That’s also what she called me. My Yiddish teacher told me recently, it can also mean „beautiful cosmos“.
For the music video, I decided to contact filmmakers who could not only relate to the theme of the special bond between grandparents and grandchildren, but also someone with a similar cultural background. After a lot of research, I found Robert Schulzmann, a master’s student at Babelsberg Film University, who is a contingent refugee himself (originally from Riga) and understands all the Jewish-Ukrainian/post-soviet influences that affect my music and relationship with my grandmother on a completely different level. We collected dozens of objects that remind me of my childhood/home/family/cultures and combined this layer with 78-year-old actress Eva-Maria Kurz, who dances in the video while wearing a necklace she inherited from her grandfather.

LYRICS
You gave me the purest feeling in the world
Ain’t no other human knows what the two of us can hold
You shine brighter than diamonds when you look at me
It’s not only because of your love for knickknack jewelry
Where’d I be without your words of trust
Would I feel without your touch
Hearing your voice made my voice exist
I never told you how much that means
Ty maya babula
Ty maya babula
Ya tvaya Maschuna
Ya tvaya Sheyne Ziere
You planted a seed of hope and set me free
You still instill the confidence in me
Where’d I be without your glitter cloud
Would my lips beam just as loud
Hearing your voice made my voice exist
I never told you how much that means
Ty maya babula
Ty maya babula
Ya tvaya Maschuna
Ya tvaya Sheyne Ziere
Bells and whistles, pearls and frills
These are a few of your favorite things
TV, chocolate, a pot of tea
But nothing’s as favorite as my brother and me
Ty maya babula
Ty maya babula
Ya tvaya Maschuna
Ya tvaya Sheyne Ziere
Ty maya babula
Ty maya babula
Ya tvaya Maschuna
Ya tvaya Sheyne Ziere
Ty maya Sheyne Ziere
