Barkey is the Director of the Middle East Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington. He served as a member of the U.S. State Department Policy Planning Staff and is the former chair of the international relations department at Lehigh University. His books include Reluctant Neighbor: Turkey’s Role in the Middle East (1997), Turkey’s Kurdish Question (1998), and Turkey and the Arab Spring (2011). This event was co-sponsored by the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies and WorldDenver.
