Nikita Naumov & Jamie Kenny Duo Interview + Performance of 7 Duets for Double Bass by Dave Anderson

In this video, we are back with the incredible Nikita Naumov, but this time, we are joined by his colleague and sub-principal of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Jamie Kenny. There is a short interview to get to know a bit about Jamie and the duo. Hear about Jamie’s appointment in the SCO, how the duo came about and what rep they like to perform. This is followed by a breathtaking performance of Dave Anderson’s 7 Duets for Double Bass. Composed in 1996, Dave Anderson wrote this piece of music with humour in mind. Drawing inspiration from canine creatures, rush hour, Led Zeppelin and even his cat Gustav, it’s a really expressive and varied piece ranging all the way from a low C with an extension to the high harmonics. Both parts are intentionally equal and the melodies pass back and forth between both players. It’s a fascinating piece that fuses multiple styles and genres, and is brought to life by Nikita and Jamie in this video. A huge thank you to Jamie and Nikita for sharing this performance and of course to the composer of this epic piece, Dave Anderson.
