Mooi Limburg en omgeving Sint Pietersberg in 1918 in kleur! Limburg in color in 1918

A very nice film about the very scenic Dutch province of Limburg more than a century ago in color! A large part of the film is dedicated to the excavation of lime stone for the purpose of building houses and for the fabrication of cement. Limburg has the most hills in The Netherlands. The highest hill, the “Vaalserberg“ is 322 meters high. The “Sint Pietersberg“ is only 170 meters high. A large part of the Sint Pietersberg has now been excavated and completely gone. The ENCY cement company is to blame for this. In the year that this film was made, this hill was still riddled with tunnels and even people living in dug-out cave dwellings. During WWII many partizans hid in these tunnels. There are also ancient wall paintings from past centuries.
