Marsden, Tyne and Wear.
Several shots of the beach and rocks on the coast at Marsden; two small boys look out at the view from a cliff. People sitting and playing on the beach look rather cold, even in their coats. At the base of one of the cliffs is a small hotel.
Various shots inside the hotel restaurant which is built into the rock - it was once a smuggler’s grotto. There are several people (mostly middle aged) at the bar and sitting at tables in the rocky alcoves; a couple coming in look around in wonder. The caves are decorated with fishing nets, stuffed fish and a fish tank built into the stone. Commentator tells us “Jack the Jibber, a smuggler who betrayed his comrades to the Excise men, was tortured here as a reprisal. They say you can still hear him moaning“.
L/S of the sweeping beach.
