Giuseppe “Pino“ Massara was an Italian composer, born 1931, whose songs had been covered by the likes of Dean Martin and Nat King Cole. His 1967 single Nel Sole launched the career of Italian singer Al Bano, selling more than 2 million copies. He founded the label Bla Bla Records in the 70s and decided to have a go at disco music with the 1979 single Margherita which became a huge hit in the Mediterranean countries and #5 in the Netherlands. While the Italian lyrics talked of “a daisy telling the truth“, “He loves me, he loves me not“ (M’ama, non m’ama, mi ama), the lyrics translated into English made very little sense. It did not matter, as Boney M. had a German Top 10 hit with it early 1981, swapping the lyric Love In The Sun with Felicidad (Spanish for Happiness). Massara, however, could not repeat the success with the two following singles, Amigo (produced by La Bionda) and Volerò, Volerai (1982).
