Grooved brain coral spawns in Florida laboratory

Grooved brain corals in human care were bred with wild corals that survived a disease outbreak, in a collaborative restoration initiative between scientists at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and The Florida Aquarium. The breakthrough is the first-time cryogenically preserved sperm has been successfully used to crossbreed brain coral from different locations. Researches hope to enhance genetic diversity and disease resistance to help protect and restore Florida’s depleted coral reefs. ------------------ For More News and Videos SUBSCRIBE and Turn Notifications On Get a Digital Subscription to the Tampa Bay Times Follow us: Facebook ► Twitter ► Instagram ► #coral #marinelife #conservation #coralreefs #Florida #FloridaAquarium
