One of Symanowski’s most popular instrumental pieces is the Nocturne and Tarantella for violin and piano; this motivated his friend conductor Grzegorz Fitelberg to orchestrate the piece for Symanowski’s memorial in 1937. The work is based upon Spanish and Italian traditional styles: a Moorish night serenade and a fierce tarantella that even conserves some Hispanic feel.
