World’s First Hormone Therapy Transsexual - Ex-GI Soldier Christine Jorgensen (1953)

“World’s First Sex Change“ is from a 1953 British Pathe newsreel called ’GI Christine Returns Home’. It was later revealed that Christine Jorgensen (formerly George) wasn’t the first, and sex change operations had happened in Germany during the 1930s. However, Christine was the first to use the addition of hormone therapy. There was a lot of publicity around Christine’s sex change, initially using the fact that she was a GI in the US military as an interest hook. Christine used her sex change as a platform for fame, recording songs and appearing on TV shows. However she often felt victimised by the press and took offence to TV presenters and even walking out of shows that she had been paid to appear on.
