The Biggest Conventional Bomb in History? (FOAB)

Do the Russian’s have the world’s biggest conventional bomb? I’m talking about the FOAB, the father of all bombs. Although its official name is slightly less catchy, being Aviation Thermobaric Bomb of Increased Power. If the Russian’s are to be trusted then this bomb weighs only 15,650lbs but has a yield of 44t of tnt, 4x that of the MOAB, the US’ biggest conventional bomb. However, unlike the MOAB that detonates once a few metres above the ground to distribute the energy over a large area , the FOAB is a thermobaric bomb otherwise known as a vacuum bomb. This means it has two explosions, Firstly it distributes an aluminium powder and ethylene oxide mix as a cloud as seen here. This fuel then catches alight in a second explosion that creates a blast wave that lasts longer than conventional explosives whilst sustaining much greater temperatures. Truly obliterating everything in its path. The footage just seen there is from it’s only known test and use of the weapon in 2007.
