Teuthidodrilus. This pelagic polychaete worm is known as a “Squidworm“

This is a species of acrocirrid polychaete worm. It was seen in ROV footage at over 2500 m depth in the Indian Ocean. It is a species from the genus Teuthidodrilus. Teuthidodrilus sp. is known as the “squidworm” because of the tentacle-like appearance of its branchiae and palps. At around 10 cm in length these worms are relatively large for polychaetes. Other polychaete species are much more likely to be found living within the sediment.
